Allison Williams is fine with being a "nepo baby."
Speaking with Jenna Bush Hager during TODAY's Read with Jenna Girls Night Out event on Wednesday, Oct. 27, Williams, 37, opened up about her relationship with the popularized term.
"It's 100% a phenomenon and one of the first examples is my career," Williams said matter-of-factly.
The Regretting You actress is the daughter of former NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams and Jane Stoddard Williams, who is also a journalist.
Allison admitted on TODAY that she credits being Brian Williams' daughter for her casting in Girls, Lena Dunham's HBO comedy-drama, which launched her acting career.
As Allison recalled, during the casting process for Girls, executive producer Judd Apatow came across coverage about her starring in a music video remaking the Mad Men theme song, and asked her to audition for the role of Marnie.
"I thought (the video) was good, because I'm my dad's daughter, it got picked up places," Williams explained.
Though some get defensive when being called a "nepo baby," Williams said she embraces it. "We are so lucky," she said.
"There's a net that not everyone has. If you're going into a creative pursuit, knowing that there's only so far you can fall, [it] is a fundamentally different pursuit than it is if you are leaving your hometown with nothing except your aspirations."
Williams said she understands that this reality of the entertainment industry is unfair.
"When you're watching from the wings and trying to get into business, and you need to get someone to open the door for you, it is maddening to watch people just waltz through it and not struggle the way you are — we are so lucky," she said.

The Get Out star pointed out the misconception that people who have famous parents aren't hard workers.
"No one can take my hard work — that's mine," Williams said. "My skill is up to everyone else to decide. Unfortunately, as much as I love control, I'm never going to be able to make everyone like me," she said. "But I will try."
Williams' conversation with Hager was recorded for the host's One Book with Jenna podcast. Along with talking about being a "nepo baby," Williams spoke to Hager about her new movie Regretting You, an adaptation of Colleen Hoover's 2019 book of the same name.
The romantic drama follows the unraveling of a family after a tragedy reveals devastating secrets. Williams stars as Morgan Grant, a young mother who sacrificed everything to raise her teenage daughter, Clara, played by Mckenna Grace.
Regretting You, directed by Josh Boone, also stars Scott Eastwood, Dave Franco and Mason Thames, and is now playing in theaters.
